AIT: Tomorrow, today. With you.

The Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT) is Austria’s largest applied research institution and a strong partner to industry. The AIT is at the forefront of global cutting-edge research in many infrastructure topics.

In 2014–2015, the aim was to make this excellence visible as an employer.
To attract global and European research talent, we developed a comprehensive employer branding program.
The campaign clearly showed who was being sought – and how it feels to be part of a top team.

Imagine – engage – achieve: this is the daily bread of scientists at AIT.

The triad became a clear employer promise:
This is not just a place for research. This is a place for thinking, taking responsibility, and implementing ideas.

2024: Research with a mission
With the new management, the next step was taken in 2024. The question was no longer just how AIT is perceived, but what concrete contribution it wants to make in an economically and geopolitically challenging environment.
In a structured process, the purpose and vision were sharpened and clearly positioned.

Purpose
We turn research into innovation by bridging science and the economy to shape tomorrow’s world.

Vision
We make innovation a driving force in Europe.

In doing so, AIT formulates a clear claim: Research connects science and the economy – and thus strengthens innovation and competitiveness in Europe.

2025: Green field instead of habit
Strategy only has an effect if it is thought through and developed internally. That is why the AIT Future Lab deliberately invited employees who have been with the company for a maximum of two years. People who can compare with other organizations, who have not yet internalized routines, and who ask questions before accepting answers.

The key questions were clear:
What can we learn from our new hires?
How can we leverage your fresh perspectives, your past experiences, and your enthusiasm to contribute?

And the central question of the day for the youngsters:
If we were to build AIT on a green field, what would it look like?

In four intensive hours, the participants worked with LEGO® Serious Play and improvisational theater to develop concrete visions of the future for AIT 2030. They discussed forms of collaboration, leadership concepts, and the interplay between science and business.

The Future Lab brought the future to the table – in the truest sense of the word, because the future is created where new voices are heard.
